Consultation has concluded

At its meeting on the 3 October 2023 Council resolved to place the Draft Management of Open Space Policy on public exhibition. The draft Policy does not propose any change in policy direction, or the way Council manages its open space assets. The draft has been prepared based on current management of open spaces by Council and by consolidating four existing open space policies. The four existing policies are Temporary Access to Private Property Across Council Reserves, Donation of Memorial Seats, Foreshore Reserves – Encroachments and the Parks and Garden Policy. All these policies have been long standing, are still relevant and form the basis of the new policy.

The draft Policy continues to ensure the provision of safe and quality open space areas (including beaches) utilising available resources for the benefit and use of Mosman residents and visitors alike.

The objectives of the Policy are to:

  • Ensure safe, visually pleasing, high quality and well-maintained open space areas throughout Mosman
  • Enable land to be used for passive recreational purposes. It is acknowledged that some active recreation activities may occur in these areas, and these will require specific approval from Council.
  • Protect and enhance the natural environment, areas of ecological, scientific, heritage, cultural or aesthetic values
  • Manage ancillary activities within open space areas including temporary access, encroachments, and memorial seats
  • Ensure public lands are not privatised by adjoining properties.

Comments will be received up to and including 30 November 2023. All comments are welcome and a report to Council outlining community consultation outcomes will be presented to Council in early 2024.
